What are the innovations of automotive parts in the new era?

The annual National Two Sessions have already begun. The 2011 two sessions are just summarizing the key points of the 11th Five-Year Plan and looking forward to the 12th Five-Year Plan. Therefore, during the two sessions in 2011, there will be a lot of topics about how to make the automobile industry bigger and stronger, and how to change from quantity to quality.

The main theme of the 12th Five-Year Plan of the automobile industry is to be stronger. The core of the plan is to have core technology, core competitiveness and strengthen independent innovation. In a certain period of time, the independent innovation of the whole vehicle has made progress, and new products can be developed using existing platforms abroad, but platform development is still a weak point. The independent innovation of automobile parts has been neglected, and the industry of self-brand parts has already been marginalized. Because the representatives of automobile parts manufacturers in the two sessions may not be many, there is not much discussion in the past two sessions.


Automotive Parts and Components


Data from the Ministry of Commerce show that foreign capital controls the majority of the market share of automotive parts and components. Domestic sales revenue of automotive parts and components accounts for only 20-25% of the whole industry, and automotive parts manufacturers with foreign background account for more than 75% of the whole industry. Among these foreign suppliers, 55% are wholly owned enterprises, 45% are Sino-foreign joint ventures and 45% are local. Components are mainly used in self-brand automobiles with low market share.

In the field of high-tech content such as automobile electronics and engine parts, foreign capital market share is as high as 90%. Among the production of core components such as electronic injection system, engine management system, ABS and airbag, automatic transmission, foreign capital enterprises account for 100%, 100% and 91%, 69% respectively.

Compared with the whole vehicle, the investment cycle of spare parts is longer, the capital threshold is higher, and the operation risk is greater. Today, the dilemma of lacking core technology of automobile spare parts in China is still obvious. Domestic automotive parts enterprises are mostly concentrated in low-end areas with low technology content and low profit level. Price has almost become the only means of competition for Chinese enterprises. In this way, the spare parts industry has gradually become an insurmountable obstacle in China's automotive industry, which seriously restricts the implementation of the strategy of China's automotive power.

The automobile parts industry should seize the opportunity to promote the adjustment and revitalization of the automobile industry from the aspects of cultivating the automobile consumption market, promoting the restructuring of the automobile industry, supporting the independent innovation of enterprises, technological transformation, vigorously developing new energy vehicles, cultivating independent brands, expanding exports and developing modern automobile service industry.

For the development direction of China's automotive parts, the 12th Five-Year Plan proposes that automotive parts are one of the four major development priorities. The key issue is to improve the ability of independent innovation and achieve breakthroughs in key assembly technology and electronic technology. New energy vehicles will drive the development of new energy components such as batteries and motors. The formation of automobile industry grouping will bring restructuring and adjustment pressure to the spare parts industry, and it must be realized on a large scale. Exports of low value-added products will face greater trade frictions, and industrial restructuring must be carried out.
